The Scripture

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
- Psalm 119.103-105
Scripture is fundamental. At the core of our faith is the Word of God that guides our paths and acts as the standard by which all else is measured. The utter significance, importance and beauty of Scripture cannot be overstated. We come to God's Word for strength and courage, understanding and wisdom, and the historical record inspired by the One - the only one - who has been here from the very beginning. Careful not to be trapped by the vain philosophy and empty deceit of human tradition (Col. 2.8), the Christian seeks to guard his heart and mind (Phil. 4.4-7), taking every thought captive in obedience to Christ and His Word (2 Cor. 10.5).

To this end, may we be as the Jews in Berea whom were commended for receiving the Word with eagerness and testing everything against Scripture to see if it was so (Acts 17.11). And in all of this, we pray that you would find God's Word to be a guiding light in dark places (Psalm 119.105), sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4.12-13), useful for training in all righteousness (2 Tim. 3.14-17) and sweeter than honey (Psalm 119.13). Amen.

THAT'S WHERE GOD IS

In That's Where God Is, we included a variety of verses pointing to God's presence in our lives. You will have to get the book to read them all. But one verse in particular became a kind of over-arching, all encompassing summary statement that knocked us down, picked us up, and opened our eyes to the reality of God's omniscience, power and relentless presence. It's also in the book, but allow us to share it with you here as well.

Lord, you have seen what is in my heart. You know all about me. You know when I sit down and when I get up. You know what I'm thinking even though you are far away. You know when I go out to work and when I come back home. You know exactly how I live. Lord, even before I speak a word, you know all about it. You are all around me. You are behind me and in front of me. You hold me in your power. I'm amazed at how well you know me. It's more than I can understand. How can I get away from your Spirit? Where can I go to escape from you? If I go up to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the deepest parts of the earth, you are also there. Suppose I were to rise with the sun in the east and then cross over to the west where it sinks into the ocean. Your hand would always be there to guide me. Your right hand would still be holding me close.

Psalm 139.1-10

May God bless the reading of His word
